We are pleased to announce that TWI Chief Executive Dr Christoph Wiesner has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List with an OBE for Services to Engineering and Innovation.
Christoph Wiesner joined TWI in 1991 after obtaining a materials science degree in Germany and a doctorate in Switzerland. He spent twelve years in the Structural Integrity Technology Group at TWI before becoming Director of Research and Technology in 2003. He oversaw the growth in value of TWI's Technology Programme through publicly funded programmes from the UK and EU.
Christoph was appointed TWI Chief Executive in 2010 leading its development as a dynamic engineering research, consulting, and training and examination organisation. This has seen collaboration with global industry in the launch of the Structural Integrity Research Foundation and new partnerships with UK and international universities in the operation of several entirely industry-led postgraduate Innovation Centres focusing on topics of industrial relevance. As a result of this success, TWI moved into expanded new premises at its Cambridge office in 2015, and has an ongoing development programme for its facilities across the world.
Christopher said, "It was a most wonderful surprise and I feel really honoured to receive this award. But the credit for this honour ultimately belongs to all TWI colleagues who over my 25-year career have freely shared their experiences for me to learn in a meritocratic business culture. They have made me feel very welcome at the start of my career, are supportive in addressing the challenges we face and have realised our growth by adapting positively to an ever-changing business environment."
Dr Wiesner is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, The Welding Institute and The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
